T-34 and Jackson

This was taken by me at Operation Cobra 2013.
Its a funny story about how our event got a hold of that T-34....

In 1945, when the Germans were retreating from the advancing Red Army, these bunch of German soldiers became very desperate, and managed to steal this T-34 tank. They panicked and drove as far as they could before realizing they had to ditch the tank (since they would have been shot by the Soviets for being caught with it), and so they covered their tracks by jamming the stick with a rock and sending the T-34 right into a lake...

Several decades later, my CO and some of his buddies were visiting the area of East Germany, and heard the older locals talking about this supposed tank in a lake, and decided to investigate....and truth be told, there it was frozen at the bottom of the lake. They had to get heavy equipment (cranes, etc.) to get it out, and finally succeeded and were surprised at how well the lake had preserved the tank. They had to flush the engine out, of course, but now she is running like a charm.
